On September 17, 2025, JP2 Friendship Center from the Polish and Slavic Center together with older New Yorkers gathered at Asphalt Green on the Upper East Side for a vibrant event—the Healthy Aging Fair, hosted by the New York City Department for the Aging (NYC Aging). Set as the Falls Prevention Awareness Week, this citywide event brought together hundreds of older adults, caregivers, health professionals, and community advocates with a shared goal: to promote safety, independence, and overall well-being in aging.
A range of community partners—from major hospitals like NY-Presbyterian and NYU Langone to local fitness and wellness organizations like Asphalt Green and Senior Whole Health—lined the venue with booths offering screenings, educational materials, and one-on-one consultations. Free blood pressure checks, balance assessments, and fall prevention demos were available throughout the day. Nutritionists gave out healthy snacks and led short workshops on meal planning, while technology specialists demonstrated tools that support aging in place, such as fall alert systems and virtual care platforms.
Attendees were invited to take part in exercises. It was a reflection of NYC’s commitment to being an age-friendly city. The Department for the Aging, in collaboration with its partners, used the event to spotlight services available year-round, from caregiver support and mental health resources to benefits enrollment and emergency preparedness for older adults.
Our seniors left got a sense of empowerment. Healthy Aging Fair remind us that with the right support, growing older can be a time of strength, connection, and renewed purpose Thank you DFTA for organizing that events for the New York Older Adults.
