Crime prevention lecture September 9 at the JP2 Friendship Center

On Tuesday, the John Paul II Friendship Center in Manhattan hosted
an informational meeting with police officers from the 7th District,
led by Police Chief Natanya Gelin. The lecture focused on the safety of New Yorkers,
especially seniors, amid the increasing incidence of SNAP food stamp
and credit card theft - SCAMS.

Officers presented the latest data on this type of crime, discussed thieves' methods,
and demonstrated how to recognize fraud and identify fake scanners through photos.
They emphasized the need for caution when using ATMs, payment terminals, and online shopping.
They also emphasized the importance of promptly reporting any suspicious situations – both to
their bank and the police.

Seniors had the opportunity to ask questions and share their experiences.
Officers also distributed informational materials with practical tips on how to protect their
cards and personal information. The meeting was received with gratitude by the participants,
who emphasized that such initiatives are very much needed in everyday life, especially
in the New York metropolitan area.
