Material Resistance Opening & Artist Talk | Weds Sept 10 at Nguyen Wahed Gallery

You are cordially invited to the opening of Material Resistance, an exhibition presenting works by four outstanding Polish artists: Anna Barlik, Marlena Kudlicka, Magdalena Abakanowicz, and Agnieszka Kurant at Nguyen Wahed Gallery in LES. The preview and artist talk will take place Wednesday, September 10, 2025, at 5:00 PM, followed by reception.
Magdalena Abakanowicz’s rarely seen 1995 butoh-dance video work, Butoh – Dance – Sculpture in its US debut, explores corporeality, trauma, and rhythm of collective gesture.
Both Marlena Kudlicka and Anna Barlik will be exhibiting new site-responsive sculptures in their NYC debut. Kudlicka’s Black Discrete sculptures explore the tension between architectural logic and poetic deviation, using mathematically precise steel forms, where disruptions, systemic ‘glitches’ are rendered in elegant, minimalist sculpture.
Barlik, in her new series Connections, investigates how spatial systems encode behaviors, transforming data into sculptural interventions that question familiar interactions with architectural spaces.
Lastly, Agnieszka Kurant’s acclaimed digital work Sentimentite (2022) will be featured, which continues Kurant’s investigations into collective emotional landscapes, algorithmic systems, and the materialization of immaterial labor.
