Recently, at Krakus Senior Center, part of the Polish and Slavic Center, we had the honor of hosting Dr. Barbara Jundo-Kaliszewska for a captivating lecture entitled “Escape from the Empire – Lithuanian Memory and the Polish Borderlands”. The presentation gave our members a deeper understanding of the rich history of the Polish-Lithuanian borderlands, highlighting how changing borders and historical events shaped local communities.
Our seniors were deeply engaged, listening attentively to stories about the culture, traditions, and daily lives of borderland communities. Following the lecture, a lively discussion took place, with participants sharing their own experiences and reflections.
This event was not only a lesson in history but also an inspiration to reflect on the importance of cultural and historical memory for our identity. We thank Dr. Barbara Jundo-Kaliszewska for this enlightening lecture and look forward to future events with equally fascinating topics!
