Let’s Bring Back the Music: Help Us Restore the Historic PSC Organ

Dear Friends of the Polish and Slavic Center,

We are excited to invite you to join us in restoring a treasured piece of history at the Polish and Slavic Center (PSC) – a historic 3000-pipe organ, situated in our auditorium at 177 Kent Street. This iconic instrument has been silent for too long, and we aim to breathe new life into it, so that our community can enjoy its original sound in concerts.

The organ is in the former church whose history dates to the beginning of the 20th century. Since its acquisition in 1987, the PSC has transformed the building into a vibrant hub for cultural and community activities, including concerts, art exhibitions, festivals, and theatrical performances. The organ restoration will not only preserve a piece of local history but also enhance the cultural landscape of North Brooklyn.

The organ, crafted by the esteemed New York-based Midmer-Losh Organ Company in 1930, is a treasured instrument that warrants reintroduction to the community. We envision the renovated organ as playing a pivotal role in our expanded cultural programming, featuring organ concerts in collaboration with organizations that promote organ music. These events will showcase the instrument’s rich, resonant tones, filling the auditorium with its intended grandeur. Furthermore, the PSC aims to make the organ accessible to young, talented musicians for training and performance, providing a platform for them to develop their skills and showcase their talents.

The estimated cost of the restoration is over $150,000, and we are seeking support from generous donors like you to make this project a reality. Your donation will contribute to the preservation of a cultural treasure and the continuation of our mission of fostering connections among communities and generations through culture, at the same time enriching the vibrant diversity of New York City and the State.

To recognize your contribution, we will provide regular updates on the restoration progress and invite you to exclusive organ concerts and events. Your support will be acknowledged through our various platforms, including our weekly newsletter, website, and social media profiles, reaching thousands of individuals in the community.

Please consider making a donation to support the restoration of our historic pipe organ. Your generosity will help us preserve a piece of local history, expand our cultural offerings, and continue to serve the community as a hub for cultural and community engagement.

Sincerely,

Board of Directors of the Polish and Slavic Center, Inc.
